PLO Delegation on Abbas-Trump meeting

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met in New York this morning with his American counterpart, President Donald Trump, and their respective teams. In a statement, the head of the PLO General Delegation to the U.S.,
Ambassador Husam Zomlot, said, “the meeting was forward-looking, and the conversation was deep and frank between the two allies.” President Abbas expressed commitment to supporting President Trump’s efforts to achieving lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis; he also commended efforts exerted by president Trump’s team.

President Abbas reiterated his commitment to peace with Israel, and to President Trump’s efforts to reach a final and comprehensive agreement. President Abbas explained to President Trump that peace can be achieved through implementing the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, and that the illegal Israeli settlements policy poses an immediate threat to the two-state solution, as well as peace in the Middle East. The two sides stressed the strategic American-Palestinian relationship, the urgency of the situation, and agreed to continue and deepen the engagement between the two sides.
